The Story Behind Tesoro Photography
Photography has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. What started as a simple high school elective back in 2005 eventually grew into a passion that shaped my career and my life. Today, through Tesoro Photography, I have the privilege of capturing the most meaningful moments for families throughout the Chicagoland area.
Where My Photography Journey Began
My journey into photography began in high school, where I first discovered how powerful a photograph can be. I fell in love with the process of creating images that freeze a moment in time—moments that people can look back on years later and instantly remember how they felt.
That passion led me to study Studio Art Photography and Art History at Bradley University, where I developed both the technical and creative foundations of my work.
After college, I spent eight years working with a professional portrait studio, starting as an assistant and eventually becoming a head photographer. During that time, I photographed countless families, children, and milestones. Those years gave me invaluable experience—not only with lighting and composition, but with connecting with families and helping children feel comfortable in front of the camera.
Becoming a Mom Changed Everything
Long before I had a child of my own, photographing families brought me so much joy. Seeing the laughter between parents and children, capturing those tiny smiles and playful moments—it always meant something special to me.
But when I became a mother myself, photography took on a deeper meaning.
As parents, we quickly realize just how fast the years pass. Babies grow into toddlers, toddlers become kids, and suddenly the little moments we thought we’d always remember begin to fade.
Photographs become the memories we hold onto.
Now when I photograph families, I see those moments from a different perspective. I understand the importance of preserving the milestones, the cuddles, the giggles, and the quiet moments between parents and their children.
Those are the images that become treasures for years to come.
The Meaning Behind “Tesoro”
You may be wondering where the name Tesoro Photography comes from.
“Tesoro” means treasure in Spanish, and it was a special nickname my late father used for me growing up. It’s a name that holds a lot of love and meaning in my life.
When I created my photography business, I knew I wanted a name that reflected what photography truly represents: capturing small treasures in time. Every family session is filled with moments that deserve to be remembered, and my goal is to turn those moments into photographs you’ll treasure forever.
Why I Started Tesoro Photography
In 2022, while expecting my son, I stepped away from the photography industry to focus on finding a better work-life balance. But photography never stopped calling me back.
Being behind the camera has always brought me a sense of peace and creativity. It’s where I feel most like myself.
In the fall of 2023, after waiting out a non-compete agreement, I officially launched Tesoro Photography so I could continue doing what I love while building a business that works for my family life as well.
Today, I photograph families, maternity sessions, newborns, and professional headshots across the greater Chicagoland area.
What It’s Like to Work With Me
My approach to photography is relaxed and natural. I want families to feel comfortable and have fun during their sessions. The best photos often come from genuine interactions—the laughter, the hugs, the little moments in between poses.
I especially love working with children and helping them feel at ease in front of the camera. When kids feel comfortable, their real personalities shine through, and that’s when the magic happens.
My Life Outside the Camera
When I’m not photographing sessions or editing galleries, I’m spending time with my own little family—my husband, our toddler son, and our two cats, Panda and Keanu.
My perfect day usually includes:
• Sleeping in (when possible!)
• Snuggling with my toddler
• Brunch and coffee
• A relaxing walk outside
And if you ever see me before a session, there’s a good chance I’m holding an iced chai latte, which is one of my favorite little treats.
